Alien Planet on Discovery Channel 05/14

National Geographic Channel has a show called "Extraterrestrials" airing May 30th. Looks like the same concept as Alien Planet and some of the creatures look very cool.

I remember looking through "Expedition" at a bookstore once and thinking it was very, very cool.

That was pretty cool, although I have a complaint. The show had both "coming up next" segments, and "in this segment..." segments, which felt like blatant padding and reduced any suspence the show might have had. This bothered me.

But the alien life looked cool, was fairly plausible, and I liked how our first contact with intelligent life is screwed up because of a mistake.

Demiurge out.

There were complaints about this at my house, too :)

One of mine as well. The other was the number of breaks. I am quite happy that it is on Thursday night as the storm wiped out the last 1/4 so I have no idea what happened after the storm on the program started (evil irony, huh?)

One thing I was very pleased about Wayne Barlowe being in the introduction.

If you guys liked this show, be sure to check out Expedition. Look in your local used book store or library.

The show left out some of the more interesting, albeit savage behaviors of some of the creatures. There are quite a few more of them in the book too. It goes into more detail about why most of the creatures never evolved eyes, but rely instead on sonar pings.

Seeing the emperor sea strider in the amoebic sea on screen was about the coolest thing I've seen on TV in a while.
