As the game is designed currently, I dont see anyone taking wiz or sorc 20.
Archmage is core, and I'll always take a couple of levels, as the power of archmage is better than wiz 20.
The hard part with the Sorc, in particular, is it gains nothing from 2-20. Not a single thing, except spell progression. Thus, any PrC that adds ANYTHING is better than Sorc if it adds +1 arcane caster progression per level. This is something you should consider in balancing, since it effectively means a PrC must either A) Add nothing but spell progression or its unbalanced, or B) It must steal caster levels to add things, and stealing my caster levels means I am underpowered.
It seems this gives two choices: either the PrC is a name for flavor only and means "Sorceror" or, its worse than sorceror, because it steals your caster levels and replaces them with things less powerful than timestop, shapechange and wish.
