AlterEarth: A New Campaign Built out of an Assignment!

Knightfall, I just had an idea regarding doubles. Perhaps some earths have a slower rotation speed than others, thus making it seem like one is time-traveling when going to another Earth. The thing to keep in mind though is that 'Quantum Tunneling' between earths is never time travel.

One the earths that have a slower rotation speed, you can use to springboard doubles of figures that have long been dead on our Earth or just younger versions of NPCs and/or PCs.

With this idea, it might be possible to intervene in the double's character development by having the other, older double, intervene at key points in the youger double's life.
Quantum tunneling sounds interesting, but I'm not too familiar with the concept. Is that right out of Sliders? (*) Or is it some sort of Real WorldTM theory?

Regardless, time travel won't be a "major" part of AlterEarth. Character doubles in this campaign will be from otherworlds, so an NPC from Earth might have a duplicate on, say, Toril or Kulan. Now, that NPC might also have a duplicate on an alternate Earth, but my focus won't be on that idea unless the alternate Earth is radically different from AlterEarth.

(*) It's been a long time since I watched Sliders.

Actually I think it is pretty much hand-in-hand with String Theory. You can find references to it in Tangents.
I assume you mean the Alternity book, Tangents. I can't remember 100% if that is one of the Alternity books I owned, back in the day.

And thanks for the wikipedia links.

Yeah, I do mean the Alternity book. Buy the pdf, it'll be the best $5 you spent to enhance your AlterEarth game.

No problem on the links front. I'm a bit ahead of the bunch when it comes to understand Quantum Mechanics, but not as ahead like other people. Feel free to ask any more questions.

Actually, Whyte Knight here in Edmonton has about four or five of the Alternity references including Alien Compendium 2, Beyond Science: A Guide to FX, Tangents, and Threats from Beyond. I can't remember if they have Dataware, however.

The store has the books marked at around $20 to $25 each, so I've been hesitating on buying any of them. Still, I know the guys who run the place, so I've been considering hitting them up for a deal. I definitely want Alien Compendium 2. I really don't feel like I have a need for the "crunch heavy" references.

If I buy some of the PDFs from RPGNow I'll likely go with the ones that were never released (i.e. The Externals, The Final Church).

Hesitate no longer, buy them! Alternity just happens to be my second favorite system of all time due to the sheer awesomeness of the fluff in thew books.

I'd love to complete my Alternity library.

I worked up the stats for a Quantum Tunneler for rpg use awhile ago. I hope you find it useful. ;)
Hmm, that looks familiar. I think I broswed through that thread soon after you posted it. Thanks for the reminder.

FYI...

The more I read d20 Dark*Matter, the more I think it would make a great alternate earth that exists in parallel to AlterEarth. Now I understand why everyone seems to love that campaign setting.

IMO it is very 'Cthulhuesque' without having any of the weirdness associated with Cthulhu. I think this is the reason for its popularity.

I really need to buy the D20 Modern book this year. I can imagine that it'll come in handy for Guardians of Gaia.

I just noticed you've got Tarsis [Pathfinder] & Golarion [Pathfinder] in the linked worlds PDF.

What exactly is Tarsis? Is it a world you're creating using the Pathfinder rules?
