Alternate races to replace 1/2 Elf, 1/2 Orc?

Yes, they are the calibans of ravenloft, humans with half orc stats, almost always outcast and considered freaks, not to be confused with ENboard posters with legendary reputations for their rules knowledge.

The ravenloft book also has cursing and dark powers corruption rules and expansions for the vampire, lich, ghost, and lycanthrope templates plus new templates for mummies and constructs. I'm a big fan of Ravenloft 3e, its too bad the follow up darklords book was a serious let down.

I dont want to get rid of them, I want to replace them with other options because they don't fit my campaign world. I want my players to have as many options as usual. I hope that clears up any questions. Any other suggestions?

Are you trying to keeping the basic racial abilities the same and just redifing what the races are?

If so, the half orc would need a new name and just be a stronger, less civilized race. You can make then nomadic and live on the fringe society.

Half Elve (again you'll need a name) could be a more civilized race that lives in very natural surroundings.

Greetings!

Hello Simon!:) I think that you should consider the following races:

(1) Minotaurs: These can be reasonably intelligent, and you can even change their alignment.

(2) Ogres: Ogres can make an interesting addition to the campaign world. They make good soldiers, and also put a different spin on the area's labour force.

(3) Quaggoth: Shaggy, white, bestial humanoids. What if they not only live underground, but on the surface as well? Assume they have quasi-vampiric natures, and gain a special rage ability at night, under the light of the moon. They could have Light Sensitivity as well.

(4) Gnolls: Make them intelligent, and provide them with a culture based on the ancient Aztecs of Central America.

(5) Trolls: Change the stereotype entirely. Assume Trolls are an ancient race of highly magical beings, who have a highly developed culture, like that of ancient Egypt. Perhaps they make pyramids from a strange black stone that has magical properties influencing ley-lines.

(6) Centaurs: Forget the standard. Make these guys like the ancient Dorians. The Dorians were an advanced Indo-European tribe that swept in from the Eurasian steppes and crushed Greece. Make the Centaurs intelligent, advanced in weapon skills, and savage in wrath. Make them excellent in war, and have them enjoy drinking, feasting, and crushing other races under hoof. Make them build great arenas, and sponsor gladiatorial games. make them an awesome terror in land warfare, with vast hordes that burn, rape, and conquer their way across the continent. Make them afraid of the sea, and suspicious of ever travelling by way of the sea. Provide them with an Imperial Roman government, and make them arrogant and prideful of their status as superior creatures to other races.

I hope that you find my suggestions helpful, Simon.:)

Kingdoms of Kalamar offer the 1/2 hobgoblin as an option. This would make an good replacement for the 1/2 orc. Personally I would not bother replacing the 1/2 elf but if you really just want options all you have to do is decide what MM races are present in your world and allow the PCs a pick from any number of them, many of which have already been suggested (A dominate race of centaurs would make an interesting roleplaying environment IMO)

how about you just use different races of humans? for example:

arabian-styled people from the desert could have special abilities relating to the desert,

people from cold lands could have cold resistance, things like that.

I play in a campaign with no half-orcs and few half-elves so the different human races add a little flavor.

just a suggestion

KOBOLDS!

They are to gnomes what orcs are to elves.

Or goblins or hobgoblins or other goblinoids.

Locathah also seem pretty cool, if you're anywhere near water.

Or, you could just have extremely brutish humans (half-orcs) and extremely effette hippy-pants humans (half-elves), and use the same stats. Perhaps different cities, different lineages, etc.

In fact, you could probably do an entire campaign where all the "races" are just different types of humans. Just water down the physical differences, and play up how they all reflect a part of what it means to actually BE HUMAN

You could also try adopting some animals. Intelligent monkeys or apes may be fun. :)

Hey,

You may want to try that non-human race from the Wheel of Time d20 book. They're called Ogier I think, and they have a very well developed culture and system of magic. They're also pacificsts, which I found interesting.

Also, check out the Mythic Races book by Fantasy Flight Games. They have a bunch of nifty races (although not many are +0), and they have at least one prestige class for each race. My favorite are the Curst. Anyway, good luck.
