Alternative Ranger - Need input!

First Post
After several years of D&D 3/3.5, I decided to create a d20 based homebrew game. In doing so, I'm trying to get away from a lot of the D&Disms that seem to be prevalent in so many games and create my own fantasy game, loosely based on D&D. One of the biggest changes is the fact that the setting is fairly low magic; there is only one spellcasting class - the mage (based on Green Ronin's True Sorcery supplement). With that in mind, the Fighter, Barbarian, and Rogue classes pretty much work as is. However, the Ranger needs a massive revision.

Leaving the spellcasting issue aside, there are a lot of things that I never really liked about the 3.0/3.5 ranger. I always envisioned the ranger as a scout who is focused on survival and tracking, rather than a front line fighter. Since I'm essentially redesigning the ranger from ground up, I decided to do away with the favored enemy and combat styles (again, I don't view the ranger abilities as focused on combat).

I need some suggestions of abilities for an alternative ranger. Wild Empathy and Track are left as is. Right now I have the ranger gaining the Trailblazer ability from the revised Star Wars scout class (improve travel time with a survival check). I'm thinking of adding the Hunter's Strike ability from the Project Phoenix ranger. (A boost to damage in surprise attacks, but not a front line fighting ability). I also like the idea of favored terrain, but I dislike the idea of mastering a new terrain every few levels.

Any suggestions for abilities?

The PP ranger also has a bunch of stealth-based abilities - perfect for a scout. The terrain masteries require you to spend at least a month in the new terrain, so if you don't fulfill that prereq, even if you gained the level, you can't get it.

You could try taking a look at Monte Cook's ranger from BoEM; that one could make infusions, IIRC, which were nonmagical potions.

Excuse my ignorance, but what does PP stand for?
