Am I a little too Type "A"

I'm in the military, soon to complete pilot training, and as an aviator, I am required to maintain about a dozen publications in two books. Anyway, whenever a pubs change comes down, we all get to go through the wonderful process writing in the changes. These are extensive notes in the margins and white spaces, crossing out old and out-dated data, and replacing it with the newer information.

So today, when I was scribbling in the errata for Mutants & Masterminds, I asked myself: do other people do this? Do you guys and girls post your changes to you RPG books, or do I have psychological issues relating to published errata.

Don't think of them as "issues". Think of them as "things that make Scion a special guy."

I only do it for errata heavy books I know my playres will want to use.

Read: Sword & Fist :D

Scrawling in books is rank heresy, barely excusable if the books are designed for it and your job requires it... I might be able to bring myself to use Post-It notes, but the concept makes my brain itch.

Yes, Scion, other people do this. One of my favorite things about PDF products is that I can mark all over the paper copy I print out. I wrote errata into the DMG, but the core books are not very note friendly.

I wonder if there is a correlation with people who highlight in textbooks (I never got into that).

Im with the rat!

Also with the rat. I have major problems with writing in books - feels like desecration. I hate giving people books as presents b/c they often want me to write something in the front and a little piece of my soul is destroyed every time I do it.

I wrote errate directly in my books for the PHB (since it is most often needed and always needed "on the fly" for looking up specific rulings in the middle of the game).

For errate on books like S&F, etc. etc. that I just see as "extra side books" I haven't for two reasons:
1) It doesn't seen as much use as the PHB, etc to warrent the time I'd have to put in
2) (for my group) they have never been needed "on the fly" as frequently as the core books. The only time they really see use is during character leveling, etc. (picking feats, spells, PrCs, etc.) or for background info. Since it isn't the middle of the game, it is easy to pull up the pdf errata for said book to check for any updates on the specific spell/feat/whatever that we may be looking up at the time.

Having said all that, I know MANY people that abhor the thought of writing in their books. It's all personal preference.

The very notion of it. Writing in books.

I had a poli sci teacher two semesters ago very fond of extensive highlighting (in multiple colors) with stars, arrows, and underlining in pen for further degrees of emphasis. When I saw his copy of the text book, a vile morass of highlighter ink and scrawl if ever there was one, I very nearly told him how he made certain body parts crawl up into my abdomen at the sight.

...or was that too much information? :)
