Am I a little too Type "A"

I guess I'm with you Scion. I constantly write in my books. I don't really bother with erratas but I write up characters in my books and scribble little notes in them during play. The way I see it, I could care less if it's a book. It's paper. It's meant to be written on. As long as I can stil see the original writing I don't mind if it's doodled on. Hell, I don't care that the cover of my phb is almost falling off, as long as I have all the individual papers in the right order it's fine by me.

I usually photocopy the errated pages and mark them up then place a post it on the book page stating to check the errata pile.

Unless the book is particularly errata heavy then I won't even do this, unless the book is absolutly necessary to play.

The very notion of it. Writing in books.

I had a poli sci teacher two semesters ago very fond of extensive highlighting (in multiple colors) with stars, arrows, and underlining in pen for further degrees of emphasis. When I saw his copy of the text book, a vile morass of highlighter ink and scrawl if ever there was one, I very nearly told him how he made certain body parts crawl up into my abdomen at the sight.

...or was that too much information? :)

I personally don't write in books, but that is because my hand writing is so poor. I do however love text books other people have written in. I used to spend hours picking out my text books for classes. I would read sections and see what the previous owner highlighted and noted. When I found one that had a similar thought process as my own I snatched up the book. This saved me hours in reading boring text books.

Write? In a BOOK?

Good gods man! Have you lost your mind? The very thought!

I'll use post-it notes for a few things... Like someone else said, for example, my copy of Sword and Fist... But never write in them. Hell, I'm *almost* sad some of my books are autographed, but at least there the coolness overrides the horror.

Write in a book? :shudder: I just can't do it. Probably because the only spanking my father ever gave me was for writing in a book. To me it's a criminal act.

Wow. I never realized that there are people who won't write in books. To each his own.

To the others who scribble in their their books: do you write anything other than errata? Notes to yourself or highlighted text? And when you do write errata in, is it important to you to copy it verbatim from the errata sheet?

Personally, I write my personal notes and house rules in blue ink while I write errata and FAQ info in black ink, but even I consider that to be a little excessive.

Thank you for serving and congrats (in advance) on completing your training. :)

Do you guys and girls post your changes to you RPG books, or do I have psychological issues relating to published errata.

Writing, post it notes and as many color-coded sticky-bookmarks as I think I need.

I can only think of one therapy but Grandma prohibits the suggestion... :D

I have no problems writing in books. After the first 3rd Ed. errata, I sat down with my book and barred what was wrong and re-wrote the errata between the lines with a DARK PEN.

Some books I venerate, like LotR and somesuch, but a role-playing book is a tool, an instruction manual to play the game.

Now, that said, I have a first edition Fiend Folio in mint condition. I do take care of that puppy.

i'm with Rat, Samnell, Buttercup, and the others -- writing in books is big no-no.

i also spend a long time looking through used textbooks for my college classes -- i'm looking for the one with absolutely no highlighting whatsoever.

heck, i won't even use bookmarks. while i'm reading a book, i just memorize what page number i leave off on. what really makes my skin crawl is when someone folds over the corner of the page to mark where they stopped reading. shudder...
