Am I calculating XP properly?

Thanks for the help guys, quick question:

[I have a party of 4 PCs (3 4th level, 1 3rd)]

Let's say that they beat four "standard" kuo-toa (CR 2). Does this mean that I consult the DMG XP table and look at average party level 3 (rounding down) and then look at CR2, multiply by four (for four KT) and divide by four (for the number of party members)?

Thanks!

You are dead on with your calculations.

As a side note, in the FR there is an alternate system where every character's Xp totals is calculated seperately.

Essentially, you would award the 3rd level character the Xp a 3rd level party would gain, and the 4th level party members the Xp a 4th level party would gain. This speeds up low level characters, and helps to even out the levels among a diverse party.

This is the way I do things. Sometimes you have people miss a session and then they get behind in XP. The players seem to like it as well, so any rule we can all agree gets used fast. :)

I agree. While generally I do not play in the Realms very much (I just don't really have a lot of Realms lore) I think that Xp variant to be great. My players all like it, and so it makes me happy. :D
