Well, that was fun

I need to thank @Mark CMG for these - he's been posting them on Facebook for months. Someone needed to post them somewhere useful like EN World!

As a fun exercise, let's pick photos and post a fantasy description that others might be able to use in their games. I figured this might make an awesome weekly column, but thought I'd see how it went here first. 3469_10151482171239392_1588551255_n.jpg376447_524838820870240_2131358352_n.jpg480734_312443608878367_200668999_n.jpg483097_534281839925938_820541137_n.jpg524707_513159052037775_1932610961_n.jpg528957_491838624191155_196266809_n.jpg530680_393474570746261_1367445863_n.jpg530703_10151078910297537_2008198205_n.jpg535568_462127143841005_1920587954_n.jpg538413_10151047617952537_1224929023_n.jpg546999_521515927869196_1571156776_n.jpg555197_521542394533216_842206287_n.jpg317919_526786124008843_1396443365_n.jpg262662_10151147217081319_649006754_n.jpg5507_534476889906433_1431941552_n.jpg6365_276387402487544_1503774404_n.jpg45874_576599222353932_524932755_n.jpg59519_3634403197634_1535911888_n.jpg64033_517341558286633_56307344_n.jpg65204_10150262333114987_137971815_n.jpg69642_412955152123751_972279803_n.jpg149526_524839894203466_1481614423_n.jpg156321_430766410326402_2040058805_n.jpg207793_451070061613380_790209146_n.jpg250763_10151100925227537_490434409_n.jpg812795_282773728515578_1034317334_o.jpg

This one just struck me as having some potential as a mining tunnel being reclaimed by a Druid from some Dwarves. One of those situations where two neutral forces could be coming up against one another that requires a diplomatic approach rather than jumping in with swords-a-swinging and spells-a-flying! It could be temporary, such as the result of an Entangle spell, or it could have been a permanent effect from some great artifact being used. It could even just seem to be two neutral parties on the surface or said artifact might be prompting the Druid to be doing things much more aggressively than one might normally think is truly neutral, perhaps leading to the injury (or even deaths) of some Dwarves. Maybe the goal here is to wrest the artifact from the Druid without taking his life, restoring him to his former status as a local caretaker of the forests surrounding the mines.

The very first image Morrus uploaded - the stone house-tower;

This house once belonged to a respected wizard in this small market-town. He was a half-elf, a wise man and a friend to many. Adventurers who explored the nearby forests and mountains often brought oddities they found in the old ruins to him, and he spent much time and energy researching them. The rest of his time he spent in his garden, growing herbs, or in his tower, making potions to sell in the village market. But about fifteen years ago, everything changed. One night there were strange lights in the tower, and a peculiar smell filled the air.

The wizard's servants all fled the house in the night, driven out by the noxious fumes. Twice they and the town constables tried to enter the house and search for the wizard, but were driven back by bad air and strange noises which filled them with unnatural terror. On several occasions adventurers who came to see the wizard have attempted to enter the house, as well. So long as they did not try to enter the tower, they were able to search in safety, but none who have entered the tower have ever returned to tell what might dwell there now. No sign of the wizard has ever been found, although on certain nights when the moon is dark and the sky is dense with clouds, it is said that a brave person can see flickers of light and hear low, hideous sounds from outside the house.

In recent years, as the house remains untenanted and untended, it has begun to fall into ruin. No heir has ever come to claim the wizard's tower, and the mayor of town has recently begun to advertise that anyone who can enter the house and drive the evil spirits from it may claim it for their own.

Ogre's Folly.

Located near a halfling village, the local residents speak of a haunted path up into the local hills. This trundled path is lined by a thicket that provides a sort of galley leading up into the hills. With a height only a little over five feet, it is somewhat difficult for large folk to traverse.

According to legend, many years ago the path was a mere dirt track over a hill between a halfling and a gnome village. A cruel ogre took up residence at the top of the hill, demanding tribute from any and all who dared to use the road. One summer's evening however, a crafty halfling (druid) tricked the ogre into believing that the road would garner more travelers if it were better tended to. The halfling tricked the ogre into rolling boulders down both sides of the path to smooth it out, and then tricked the ogre into planting magical bushes for cover along the path to provide shade to travellers. The halfling druid caused the bushes to grow into a thicket that protected travellers with an enveloping canopy. The ogre attempted to catch the halfling druid when he used the "tunnel" to escape, and died shortly thereafter from the poison thorns that torn his flesh when he attempted to reach into the pathway to capture the small rascal. However, the ogre laid a dying curse upon the path and it is said that wherever one can find a gap in the brambles, there is sure to be trouble waiting to ensnare the individual.
