The Sacred Grove of Cypress, the Minotaur Druid

Unusual among his kind, Cypress chose to live in peace, following "The Old Faith." As a Druid, he sought to help those who came to him find harmony...but some found it hard to accept him because of the reputation of his people. Though he sought to live in peace, it did not always to survive the prejudices of his neighbors... His dwelling was often ransacked by those who feared or hated him, simply because of his species.

So, over time, he created his Sacred Grove. It is not what it seems.

Each plant was carefully placed and coaxed into a particular shape, tracing out a special mystic maze. The Grove is semi-sentient, and protects Korina (and any of his guests) who resides in the white gazebo at its heart. At any time, it can act like an Entangle spell of its own accord if it senses hostility, and the plants are not only fire resistant, they actually grow with lightning speed if someone tries to light them.

When the Grove grasps someone, it may hold them or expel them, depending on the level of hostility it detects. Minor maliciousness will result in expulsion, but deep malice will result in being held for the druid's queries.

Those who bear no ill will to Korina are able to navigate the Grove freely, and many still seek him out for his potions or advice.

The final few steps of the path to enlightenment for the monks of 石 are the most difficult and the most triumphant. Many have studied and trained every aspect of the way and once a year an elder is selected to take the challenge, to see if they have what it takes to become truly enlightened. They must ascend the steps both literally and metaphorically and face the unknown that lies beyond. None have ever returned, though a fresh statue always appears in their place - some scholars believe them petrified, though standard magics have never been effective and the monks take great offense to any desecration of the statues. The order is not foolish, they know well that their brothers have failed to reach the final stage of enlightenment, but they also know that one day someone will come to the mountains and succeed, and in doing so release the souls of the brethren into their next lives.

(Consider this a plot hook to fight not just a medusa, but The Medusa, or similar petrifying creature. I just love the idea of an entire religious order being built around one creature that none of them have ever seen, and that they all seek to defeat through wisdom, though some element of brute force is clearly required.)
