Amazon.com Trustworthy?

Okay, I was looking at Amazon.com for some Anime Dvds cause I wanted the best deals possible. However, I have only gotten one thing there before [a book] so I don't have much experience with that site. However, what I was wondering was how well can I trust that site?

If I buy an Anime Complete Boxed set, am I actually buying the same thing as the box from the store, or do I have a chance of buying some crappy homemade discs someone made and is trying to pass them off on the Amazon.com as the real thing?

The reason why I ask is that some of the prices seem almost too good to be true and I don't want to be ripped off if at all possible.

Thanks for your help.

Amazon is a huge corporation. They don't sell fakes. You can buy their wares safely. If you're buying items sold from Amazon proper, you are safe.

However, they do host other people's sales through the "amazon stores" and "used and new" links. These are only as good as the people who manage them I guess. Amazon has some sort of security policy there, and I've never had troubles, but I wouldn't say that fraud is impossible.

Edit: could you post a link to the item you're looking at? That way we could see if it's being sold by amazon or someone else.

I use Amazon.com for my Computer Games, Books, D&D stuff...never had any issues with them, they seem pretty reliable. :)

If you're buying from Amazon's stock, like a brand new book directly from their warehouse, then it's about as safe as you can possibly get.

The links you gave are from third party resellers hosted by amazon. So it's a little bit more *buyer be ware*, but still pretty safe. I've bought new & used stuff that way through amazon without a problem (though in one case, an out of print TSR product that came via some smaller book store, was missing it's map booklet).

Those are links to sellers through "Amazon's Marketplace". Those are indiviuduals or small companies selling stock through the Amazon storefront I believe. In those sections it is a little more buyer beware as someone already mentioned. Read their reviews, make sure they were ranked highly and then decide how comfortable you are making the purchase.

With that said, I have had great success buying through that section. I have found some really god deals there and been happy with what I received. But making sure to look at their reviews is probably worthwhile.

As for Amazon itself, I have been ordering from them for years and years and always had positive experieces. Their shipping times seem to have grown, but I tend to use the free shipping option, so I can't complain.

It looks like Hong Kong bootlegs to be honest. Some good clues to whether it's a HK bootleg is whether its region encoded or not (which none of your lists mention), what languages it includes, and price. Generally, if it looks to good to be true, it probably is. I would avoid those and save up and buy the real things.

I never purchase through Amazon vendors, just directly from Amazon. I have used Amazon for all my online purchases so far, minus my Dragon Compendium preorder, and I am very happy with all the material that has arrived at my doorstep.

Hmmm, looks like there were a couple of replies on Amazon.com for a couple those venders complaining that their stuff was bootlegged. I guess I won't be getting anything from THEM. I guess that price truly was too good to be true. Thanks for the replies. Need to save up more money now. :(
