According to Amazon, 10,000+ in the last month. Two people at my office party came up to me and asked if Heroes of the Borderlands would be a good gift for people in their lives who wanted to try DMing for the first time.
WotC is probably going to sell a ton of these boxes this month.

Dang. Still. There’s a store, crafty crocodile, on Amazon that sells the D&D Essentials boxed set with 6 dice set and a couple other things for $52…sold 2k of these sets in the last month, ships from Amazon….pretty nice package deal and selling well for the store! Just the Essentials boxed set shipping from Amazon in a separate listing has sold 500 in the last month so that extra stuff is added value to many consumers it seems. But combined 2500 units of the boxed set in the last month is excellent for a 6 year old starter set.
Side note since it has a link, the new Pendragon starter set sold 50 units the last month.
Having just played another session of Heroes of the Borderlands this weekend, I'm even more impressed with the set. I bet we are going to see a huge wave of new players coming into the hobby because of it.Welcome to the Hellfire Club is sold out at Target and Amazon.
Heroes of the Borderlands is also sold out at Amazon.
