Didn't a later edition of the 2nd edition Player's Handbook have a search-and-replace error, substituting "mage" for wizard in certain spots?

As the tale goes, there were several spots in the printing where the term "damage" was replaced with "dawizard"...

However, I have not been able to confirm this.

Actually, I think that was the 4-volume Encyclopedia Magica magic item compendium from 2nd edition. As I recall it had dawizard/iwizard all through it--one of the stupidest possible mistakes (since it shouldn't happen in the first place--learn to use your text editor!--, ought to leap out of the spellchecker, and it should be immediately obvious to any proofreaders).

then there was the newspaper who reported on a speech by a "bottle-scarred veteran". They later printed a retraction, which said that the man was, in fact, a "battle-scared veteran".

In just proof-reading some campaign material for my home-brew I came across " the Thieves Guild will often snuggle demi-humans into the country". I thought, my what loving thieves, but it ought to be smuggle!

Soothe the savage beast is a misinterpretation that has been around so long as to be a saying in its' own right. Just like Gild the lily is a senseless shortening of the original Shakespeare, You would not gild gold, not paint the lily (paraphrased).

The large urban school district which employs me once sent out a letter to thousands of households that included the phrase Milwaukee Pubic Schools. Supposedly, everyone was told to remove the word "pubic" from their spell-check dictionaries in MS Word. :p
