An [Evil] Holy Warrior? Negitive level issues...

Kemrain

First Post
I have a character who's quite soon to pick up the [Evil] descriptor via a template. She's also interested in wielding Holy weapons. Since she's [Evil], she'll recieve a negitive level whenever she touches her weapon (Two, actually.. She Dual Wields.) What I want to know is, is there a way to overcome the negitive levels, within the rules, or should I start a plot write-up and just get my GM to fudge it?

There's no way.

Come on. You're evil. You're weilding good weapons. These things are the antithesis of you. They probably burn you when you touch them. They're trying to kill you (or get you killed) as much as they are trying to kill whoever you're attacking.

Now, if you're just looking for a way to bypass DR of other evil critters, can I direct your attention to align weapon? You don't get the bonus damage, but you also don't get the negative level. One could easily imagine a scabbard of align weapon, along the same lines as a scabbard of keen edges, that would let you cast the spell on your blades 3/day.

Since align weapon is a divine spell that gets an alignment descriptor depending on which alignment one places on it, only good and neutral clerics can cast it for holy, not evil ones.

Hence the magic item!

Though Align weapon would be an elegant solution, the story dictates that she'll end up with a pair of Holy swords. She'll probably end up wrapping the hilts in something thick, and wearing gloves, so no damage, but still some pain from the negitive levels. Yes, burning, yes, blistering, yes, unpleasantness, but it's the price she'll pay to never forget what hell's done to her.

She has the [Evil] descriptor, but her alignment isn't evil. That doesn't count for much, though, does it?

You know, I have this nagging memory of - some time in the last few days! - reading something about an effect that allowed someone to gain the benefits of being a certain alignment, without actually changing alignment.

But I can't for the life of me remember where I saw it.

Well, in the rules there is never any damage associated with using a weapon aligned differently from the user. That was something in 1st and 2nd editions and only then applied to intelligent weapons.

Now for your question, yes, your character will gain negative levels due to having the [evil] descriptor. Your character will be treated as evil for all purposes because of that. If your character is good as well, now you are doubley screwed, because anything that adversely affects good characters or creatures will still affect you.

I'm curious as to which template you are planning to aquire.

Found it! All you need is six levels of Horizon Walker.

Aligned (Planar): You have the instinctive ability to mimic the dominant alignment of the plane. You incur none of the penalties for having an alignment at odds with that of the plane, and spells and abilities that harm those of the opposite alignment don’t affect you. You have the dominant alignment of the plane with regard to magic, but your behavior and any alignment-related Class Features you have are unaffected.

So if you take Planar Terrain Mastery: Aligned (Good), then spells and abilities that harm evil creatures (like the negative levels from a Holy weapon, say) don't affect you.
