An idea for promoting roleplaying

What about setting up a roleplaying game at the library? It could be emphasized as an "exploration through literature" if not anything else.

What do you guys think?

I can't see this working. When the game is good, the players get loud (at times)... and loud seems to be frowned upon at libraries.

Besides, if I gamed at the library... I'd have to kick my own ass. (on the other hand, in HS we played magic in the library :p)

Kinda funny you say that. My library is almost never quiet, what with all the little kids running around. The librarians themselves seem rather chatty, too. :\

Edit: That, and there are activities going on all the time which are rather noisy. Ventriloquists, movies, balloon artists....

Some of the newer libaries are like that. Some aren't. I'd talk to them and see if it's something you can do. It's actually not a bad idea if it wouldn't get you kicked out.

Many libraries have meeting or function rooms available, for free or for low cost. This would give you some privacy to help offset any noise.

These rooms sometimes have useful equipment like white / chalkboards & possibly other AV equipment.

D&D may or may not be a suitable game for this environment. If I were to do a certain novel, d20 may not be the best fit. What do you think?

Let's see. I think it was 1985 when my 1e Monster Manual was stolen while I was playing at the library. So, I'd say that yes you could play in a library. It's been done before. But I have bad memories of doing it.

On a more serious note ( ;) ), I seem to recall reading about libraries that have hosted roleplaying games because of the connection between gaming and fantastic literature. Of course, I don't happen to have a link handy... :(
