Ancient Soul Feat Question

First Post
The Ancient Soul feat says that "Your dragon breath power is considered an arcane attack power."

What exactly is the effect of this for a dragonborn sorcerer? I'm having a hard time making the connection to other powers or abilities.

It means feats like Destructive Wizardry or Arcane Fire, that normally can only be used with arcane attacks, can affect your breath weapon.

Amusingly, this also means that Draconic Spellcaster affects your breath weapon, as it is, after all, "an arcane power that deals the same damage type as your breath weapon".

Edit:
Arcane Reach (?)
Good call! That definitely works too, if you've got Dex 15.

I wish there was a way to search for key phrases like "arcane attack power". That would help when trying to figure out some of the ramifications of feats and powers.

Here's the first combo that comes to mind.

dragonborn sorcerer

Making your dragon breath an arcane power means that if, somehow, you got a sizeable bonus to damage for arcane powers, that such a bonus would then apply to the dragon breath.

Do Sorcerers get any of those?

Oh, duh!

if you are a draconic sorcerer, you get your str bonus added to damage with arcane powers. Ergo, your breath weapon now adds your strength modifier to damage.

Sometimes its the basic things that are easiest to miss.

This is a bit off topic, but...

Wow... just double checked the Sorceror feature - and the damage DOES add to all arcane powers...

That certainly does make taking multiclass feats in other arcane classes more viable, as you'll get your damage booster to those powers as well. Well, at least multiclassing into Bard or Warlock - the damage boost probably doesn't overcome the MAD issues of mutliclassing into any of the Int based arcane classes (Wizard, swordmage, artificer) or taking any of the Con based Warlock powers.

Doesn't work while hybriding, though, as the sorceror hybrid feature DOES limit the boost to sorceror powers.

Dragon breath ownage.

Of course, if you want to OP power game the dragonborn sorc class, you can always take:

Ancient Soul
Hurl Breath

Example:

Minor action, fire breath as a area burst 2, hitting yourself with one of the squares.

Assuming you hit (yourself), apply damage (somewhat high however, due to no resistance), and recharge breath.

Standard action - repeat.
Move action - repeat.
Action point - repeat.

This of course assumes you can hit yourself repeatedly with your breath. Easy enough to build around, ie. hit against reflex.
