Ancient Soul Feat Question

Of course, if you want to OP power game the dragonborn sorc class, you can always take:

Ancient Soul
Hurl Breath

Example:

Minor action, fire breath as a area burst 2, hitting yourself with one of the squares.

Assuming you hit (yourself), apply damage (somewhat high however, due to no resistance), and recharge breath.

Standard action - repeat.
Move action - repeat.
Action point - repeat.

This of course assumes you can hit yourself repeatedly with your breath. Easy enough to build around, ie. hit against reflex.
The Dragonborn Dragon Sorcerer in one of the groups I play in does exactly this. It works pretty well for increasing his damage output, but he consumes a lot of healing resources as well.

You can really trick out Dragon Breath as a Dragonborn Dragon Sorcerer. Nusemee's Atonement, Ninefold Master, Sorcerous Flux, Rod of Arkhosia, War Wizardary, Trusted Spellcasting. At 30 it is hyper accurate (can get it to the point where it misses level+1 on a natural 1 only), and the damage mod can exceed 60 with the right items/feats/powers/etc, and in actual play, if done right, can be recharged at-will (with back-up options).

Rod of Arkhosia?

Where is that? I could find a Rod of the Dragonborn (implement that makes all arcane powers have the same type as your Dragon Breath) and an Arkhosian Scepter (where you can apply the enhancement to the attack and damage rolls of your dragon breath power, even if you can’t normally use rods as implements), but no Rod of Arkhosia.

The Rod of the Dragonborn makes for easy use of several arcane abilities, but it doesn't really help the Dragon Breath itself, and Arkhosian Scepter's property seems to overlap the Ninefold Master's Breath Expertise feature.

I am working up a Dragonborn (probably Sorcerer) for an upcoming campaign, so I'm kind of looking for cool things to do with the breath ability.

Arkhosian Rod. Had it partly right.

And nope, doesn't overlap. Arkhosian Rod adds the +hit as well (Ninefold is only damage). So you have something that 1.) has a built-in +6, and 2.) Still gets +6 Enhance to hit. Getting it to benefit from Expertise is a separate trick (Draconic Spellcaster). ^.^

So at 30 that is +9 (Cha.. I'll just assume an ED that gives +Str (or you took the feat that chances that stat for DB to any stat for both attack and damage) because there are tons of good options)+ 15 (1/2 level)+6 (Built-in to the power)+3 (Draconic Spellcaster)+6 (Enhance). That is 39 vs a NAD, which hits an even level on a 3+. Add in Superior Reflexes (you'll have 15 Dex for Sorcerer Implement Expertise) for auto-CA on your first turn and Surprising Breath for CA on every subsequent turn so long as you keep hitting. Which shouldn't be hard, since Dragonbreath counts as a Class Spell (Ninefolder Master) it works with Sorcerous Flux (you can assign the to hit rolls in all blasts/bursts to any target in the blast/burst. Including allies becomes a net benefit). That is +41 on a very regular basis, which hits level+1 on a 2+

If you happen to not do enough damage to recharge via Nusemee's Atonment.... action point and get a second chance.

Should note this build is dangerous, you can kill yourself and it isn't, strictly speaking, superior in DPR. I just like the fact that with a huge investment you can actually get the whole damn thing to work.

I have however, sat down with the DM and discussed how absurd this tactic is in the "story sense" of the universe. We've both come to the conclusion to apply an errata that your own dragon's breath can not recharge itself, as it is not "expended" when you are hitting yourself with the power. You may however, have 2 dragonborn hit each other with appropriate damage type weapons to recharge each other's, but this disallows firing off multiple breath's in one turn. In the "spirit of the rules" we thought this was the best result.

Edit: With delay of actions, I suppose you could fire of multiple breaths, but now 2 character's are soaking up damage, which limits the hacks of the tactic.
