And another one bites the dust

Well,

One of the 2 last Music Video Channels I get is dead. Came home, turned on IMF (International Music Feed) and got Ovation TV (which suked before, sucks now, & will suck in the future. The bought IMF for the music rights, but I doubt they'll show more than an hour or two a day.

Thus Ovation (Formally IMF) joins the ranks of channels I boycott:

MTV (Music Televsion that has no music).

MTV 2 (Founded to play music when Music Televison decided they liked cheap reality better; now the home of even cheaper reality).

VH1 (Video Hits & home to even more horrid reality channels).

CMT (Country Music Televison, that has stopped playing country music over the last year or so).

BET (Black Entertainment Televsion. Used to play almost exclusivly music videos, but as the only Music Channel not to indicate any usical preference, I'm not so upset about the change).

So, on Dish Network, on those channels DEDICATED EXCLUSIVLY TO MUSIC!!!!!!!

Here is what I'm stuck with:

Ovation (Non-music, occasional Opera, if it is the same as what I had several cable companies ago).

Fuse TV (In the last 3 months, they've dropped the Music Vidoes by 90% & remotely music related by 50%).

SITV (Used to be pretty much Music Videos, but always called itself more of a channel for Latinos, so I can't fault them for actually living up to their channel purpose).

MTV (Home of some of the worst Reality shows I've ever seen, Viacom is totally destroying MTV for Low Cost, but high profit due to being on every Cable System in the country. But screw the hard work & ingenuity that got us there).

MTV2 (See MTV).

VH1 Classic (Fewer & fewer music shows, more & more re-runs of horrid Made for VH1 Specials).

VH1 (May all at Viacom have Rapid, Dire, Legendary, Vampiric, Fiendish, Weasels attack their crotch).

CMT (Maybe someone at Viacom should look up "Music" in a Dictionary).

GAC (Great American Country). Actually shows Country Music Videos. Imagine that, in a day of hundreds of specialtiy channels, one that bothers to name itself & live up to that name.

Spike TV (Still there from when it was TNN, the Nashville Network). See; they decided to change their name when they went in another direction. I suppose CCPTRTV( Cheap, Crappy Pre-Teen Reality TV) just doesn't have the same ring as MTV.

So, of the 10 DEDICATED by Dish Network Music Video Channels, I'm down to ONE (GAC), that actually is predominatly music-related.

I also have Telemudo 2 up on the Spanish Side that shows mainly Music Videos.

There are also the Radio Channels that at least play music.

You'd think out of the over 500+ channels I have access to & the amount of Money the recording industy brings in, I'd have a few Music Video Channels (or at least the Big Music Companies putting some pressure to have more airtime).

Or, read about Ovation TV for yourself & see if you think its a little wierd they just bought IMF, Killed it, & forced their only-marginally similiar Channel in its place.

Or, if the compaines didn't want you there, what makes you think they'll keep you there now?

I, too, decry the state of music television.

At least MTV2 still airs Headbanger's Ball. :)

We've got Verizon FiOS, and there are a few dozen music channels, but some are censored, and NONE play actual videos. Still, if you want music 24-7 in a given genre, they've got it!

I would decry it but I just don't care enough anymore, and I can remember watching MTV during its first year On-Air. I haven't watched any TV other than the news and occasional documentaries on National Geographic channel for at least two years. I just keep cable for the Broadband. There may be 900+ channels but I wouldn't watch most of them if you paid me.

MuchMusic and MuchMoreMusic (the Canadian equivalents of MTV and VH1, respectively) were cooler for longer than their American counterparts, but now they too have all but abandoned playing music videos. They mostly run reality and celebrity profile shows now. I only have the basic TV subscription of 20-something channels now and I don't miss anything.

I've read that blocks of music videos simply don't get good ratings any more. I just watch videos (old and new) on Youtube now: if I hear a song I like I just go there and see if there's a video for it.

Years ago, when MTV was clearly moving further and further away from actual music, I suggested jokingly that their next show would be one where morons are paid to hurt themselves. I suggested they call it "Ow, My Neck!"

About a year later the show "Jackass" debuted. I haven't watched MTV since.

About a year ago, I discovered a channel called "The Tube" on my digital cable -- it was nothing but music videos, a lot of them from the early days of videos. I loved that channel.

Turns out it was being run on the "secondary" channel of WGN here in Chicago. And, about 6 weeks ago, they decided that it wasn't doing well, and switched the programming to something else. Alas.

I, too, note that there is no longer any M in MTV. All I can speculate is that the ratings for playing music videos just aren't there anymore (it's not like it's expensive programming to produce).

Teh music they did play tended to suck anyways.

Anyway, if you have Dish Network, shouldn't get you Sirius Radio on it? That should have more than enough music for you. No videos, but music videos hit its peak artistically in the early-mid 80s. So it's not any great loss, IMHO.

I get Music Choice on my digital cable, which makes nice background music (I like to listen to it while I paint minis, for example).

Sure there is - but it stands for Miscellaneous.

Me - I figure that if the music needs video to make it good, I probably don't want to deal with it, so I stick to the radio.
