And Now for a taste of things to come.

Bront

The man with the probe
New Fader Script

It doesn't work. I had to click on the link, and nothing else showed up.

And even that page was incredably slow.

I've turned on a fader effect I'm planning to use on ENWorld 2 though I want to test how much of a processor burden the uploading of the scripts to all the users is going to cause and whether the effect will work. It's a subtle effect - the screen simply fades in. If you start a log out you will see the new ENWorld 2 dialog box which will be showing up a lot on the new site -- IF these scripts work smoothly.

The scripting has created at least one bug - the editor box is messed up pretty badly. Since it just showed up I'm presuming there's a namespace collision in the old javascript.

I don't intend to leave this in place for very long - maybe a week - then I'm taking it down. I'm just wanting to get a feel for how it will work. If it isn't going to work on most systems I can bypass putting in a couple hundred hours of work for what I have planned for this.

That was pretty fast Bront. Anyway, what OS (Or let me guess - Safari?) I'm fairly certain I'll need to write a bypass for Safari to use sudden appears rather than fades because Steve Jobs can't implement a proper Javascript DOM in his browser.

A couple of hundred hours of work for a fader script? Mike if that's the case, forget about it - it's not worth it.

Scriptalicious is a package available online. The work is doing the controls that take advantage of dynamic popups. Some of these have to be done anyway, there's just multiple ways to do it. Besides it's worth it simply because I can site this coding when showing new clients my portfolio of work.

I'm sure you are all aware of this, but I figured I'd post anyway. There is a bit of a delay as the new screen comes up and you get the message. The delay isn't long ... long enough for me to read about half the message before the new screen comes in. {I'm running ona cable modem, just for reference} Honestly, I do find it a bit annoying to have that message come up every time I want to read a a new page of posts. But, I understand wanting to try it out, too.

I will say that the screen where you type in new posts is wildly stretched. I think it's all there, just wildly stretched. Is this what you mean by the editor? If so ... then you already know about this, too.

Trying to be helpful.

That is a bug in the editor somehow introduced by the appearance of the new scripts - I'm not sure why. It isn't happening on the development boards so I was shocked when I saw it to be honest. Fixing it is a waste of time since it isn't occuring under vbulletin 3.6.4 (which is what the dev boards use). This alt scheme will only be around a week then it will be turned off.

As to the message - that has to be there to keep from locking out users who's browsers fail to do the fade in - without it they've be effectively locked out of the board which isn't fair. I find it annoying too but there's no workaround. Until a secure passaround is in place it has to stay. The final boards will have such a passaround.

Is there a way to turn this thing off on an individual basis?

Yep, it's only on one of the styles. You're currently using the style "Scriptalicious testing", but you can switch back to default.

Gah! That messed up new post page is already starting to drive me nuts! :)
