And now, for something completely different

Here's a thread not about DnD.

My group tends to hop back and forth between systems. Variety is the spice of life and all that. We're about to take a break from 4E, and are debating what game to play (some people want a GURPS style Illumanti game (bleh), others back to Vampire, etc).

Anyways, I'm thinking about breaking out my favorite game, Deadlands: Hell on Earth again.

However, I've heard that Savage Worlds is a more streamlined or refined version of the Deadlands system.

Can someone who has played both please give a breakdown of the differences between the Deadlands system and the Savage World system?

Thanks.

We had fun playing Feng Shui last night. I haven't played Savage Worlds and only played Deadlands years ago, so you probably want someone who has played the latest edition. However, I figured a thread about gaming might need a bit of a bump even at this early stage. :)

I love Deadlands' flavor, but find its rules clunky. I like the Savage Worlds rules much more. Definitely worth buying and playing.

Savage Worlds is based off of the Great Rail Wars rules, which were, of course, based off of the Deadlands Classic rules. It plays much quicker and is far less clunky (that said, I have a major spot in my heart for the original clunky mechanics).

However, I have one major issue with Deadlands Reloaded.

Mad Scientists in DLR just outright suck compared to Classic mad scientists. Otherwise, the system does play better.

Also, I'm more than a bit nerdraged at how Pinnacle has been supporting Deadlands since they released Reloaded (that is..they haven't).
