I always say "about" and "around" (as in approximately). It's fine when you're in a room that "is about 30 feet by 40 feet. But as stupid as it sounds I will accidently say "You enter the room and see about five minotaurs." Is it 4 minotaurs? 6 minotaurs? 4.5 minotaurs?

I do that all the time and my players rib me for it. I can't help it, that is how I talk.
I laugh at it myself when they point it out.

"Suddenly," not very often. But my NPCs have a terrible habit of saying "Alright, well..."

..that and breaking into an Irish brogue anytime they have any sort of accent. Eventually, they become Irish. I don't know why. :D

Hey, exact head counts take a moment or two.

You've just entered a dimly lit room, with a bunch of large nasty humanoids charging towards you. As if you're going to stop and make sure you didn't miss counting the one in the back of the herd, instead of take some action to save your miserable hide?

Usually when I or the others do we say it very dramatically - its a known stereotypical phrase and when it comes we all smile and groan at the same time and prepare ourself for whatever is coming mentally. :) So with us it really depends on how much sense of humor the DM has that evening. ;)

"MEANWHILE" while our heros are creeping down the mountain path towards the village; the blubbering beast of Brall devours another villiger.

I use "suddenly." How often varies a lot, I think. I didn't vote though because I think it would average out to be more than once or twice, but less than 10 times per session.

I think the 'suddenly' phenomenon is closely related to the 'furnitures come first' syndrome which I also suffer from. My players enter a room my description goes something like "The room is an oblong chamber roughly 80' on 30', in the corner you see an old armoire, 2 chairs with leather upholstery and a coat rack. Oh yes, a large black dragon with venom dripping from his fangs is blocking most of this view from you" :p
