[Andromeda] Question (possible spoilers)

I was watching Andromeda today..

an episode regarding the retrvivial of a device that maps slipstreams from a plant that does not know it crashed on there world ...

(that is all from the basic premise of the show.. so I don't feel guilty saying that much).

anyway, my question is this.

I do not watch the show regularly, only episodes here and there. During the course of this episode though,, several "groups" / factions / races were mentioned in dialogue.

While I could follow the basic gist, I really had no idea who any of these groups/races mentioned were ...

Anyway know?

One name I recall was dragorn (or something) ... hmm, there were two others, but I can't begin to recall it right now...

(it started with two of the groups fighting each other in a space battle) ...

Thanks in advance to anyone that can shed some light! I just thought that maybe certain things might make more sense if I knew some of that from the back stories...

(as said though, i could still follow the episode easily enough even though i didn't know the group names)

Dragorn? Perhaps that was Drago? The Drago Kazov are a Nietzschean Pride that currently has a whole lot of power, and are not nice people.

Umbran already answered part of the question, but I'll fill in some details:

The groups that were fighting at the beginning were Nietzscheans. They are genetically engineered human divided into clan-like groups known as prides.

One pride, the Drago-Kazov, are one of the series' main recurring badguys. They're a bunch of arrogant, fascist thugs that control a number of slave worlds, including Earth. They're also the largest and strongest pride. They wiped out Tyr's pride, the Kodiaks, and he generally hates them.

Another pride mentioned was the Sabra-Jaguar pride. They used two be seperate prides at war with each other, but joined forces in a marriage. This happened near the end of the first season:

They're enemies of the Drago-Kazov, and also a member of the new Commonwealth.

Another race mentioned were the Perseids, also referred to as "the Chinheads" by Harper. They're bluish grey aliens with long chins, and generally seem to be expert mathematicians and physicists. The new Commonwealth is also based on the Perseid homeworld, Sinti.

I missed like 2 seasons so these are probably obvious, but what happened to the purple chick? I know she turned into the gold chick but I don't understand how...

Also, did they reveal *what* she is?

She switched places with her grown-up self from the future. It was part of the tesseracting episode from last season. THat's the what, the how is, well....

Not exactly. However, her species seems to be interested in stopping the Magog threat for some unknown reason, and perhaps they're some sort of divine agents or something. It's all very mysterious.

I also heard the actress was alergic to the purple makeup.


I like her new golden look it suits her.
She also met a male of her race in an epsode a while back but that didn't really answer any questions about their race.

The purple, now gold, gal is Trance.

Tesseracts are sort of distortions in space in time on that show.

The gold version did come from the future, a very bad future. She came back to make sure that the things that caused that future don't happen.

She's supposed to be more of a combat oriented version of the original. I guess that's why she wears all the Xena leather.

Anyway, as far as her race...

Apparently they can change their form to a degree. She has encountered others of her "family" and none of them have looked exactly like her.

Also Trance seems to have a strange anatomy. For example in a recent episode it was mentioned that she doesn't have a stomach.

"I feel queasy, my stomach aches."
"Trance, you don't have a stomach."
"Well, that may be true, but I feel like have a stomach ache."

Her race all tend to be cryptic and manipulative so far.

Oh and they have the ability to see all of the possible immediate outcomes of current events and act on them if they wish.

Finally they live a very long time. Harper, the short wise-cracking tech guy, found an extremely ancient drawing of people worshipping a purple skinned, long tailed, naked, Trance lying on an altar.
