Animals don't get SR. In any event of course it gets no save - if you're willing to accept a spell, it gets no save. Your ally is willing to accept a buffing spell.

No, because it enjoys getting buffed.

If it's a harmful effect, it gets a save. If it's a good effect, it doesn't get a save.

From the SRD
Voluntarily Giving up a Saving Throw: A creature can voluntarily forego a saving throw and willingly accept a spell’s result. Even a character with a special resistance to magic can suppress this quality.

I understand the concept. But the rule tells me that voluntarily foregoing the saving throw is an action that the animal must take, it doesn't just happen. My problem is with the notion that the summoned animal or animal companion understands when it is supposed to do this. These are animals, probably wild animals. How do they know that I am casting a beneficial spell so they can accept it? Do they read my intentions some way? Or do I need to speak with them to get them to agree?

If the assumption is that they accept any spell from me because they are allies then they should not get the save when I drop the flame strike on them. I can't see the mechanism here that allows them to automatically accept the good and reject the bad.

Share Spell is useless anyway - how often do you stick within 5 feet of your dire bear companion all the time during combat?

Cures come to mind as useful.
