Animate Dead Statues?!

I've already rule-zeroed this one for my games...

In the spell description of Stone To Flesh, it states that when cast on a statue, it produces a corpse.

Could this "corpse" be the target of an Animate Dead spell to produce a zombie?

Yes.

Could this "corpse" be the target of an Animate Dead spell to produce a skeleton?

Yes.
---

If Stone to Flesh is cast on a Stone Golem that has been reduced to zero hit points, will it become a corpse in this same fashion? Could that corpse then be the target of an Animate Dead spell?

Yes, it will become a flesh corpse and can then be the target of an animate dead spell.

The same way that flesh turned into stone and then back to flesh gives you the bones to walk around on. It's magic, silly! :)

But at least that started out as having bones in it. And isn't it the stone to flesh cancels the flesh to stone?

Oh my god. Instead of just killing pathetically weak creatures, or raiding the local graveyard, players will spend huge amounts of money and a 6th level spell to create zombies! Oh the humanity!

i think you may be looking over the little know fact that most sculpters actually start their statues with a skeletal frame and then ADD the rest of the stone to the statue.

not being in the scuplting business i can see how you would make that mistake :)

Hmmm. A zombie with no bones; A puddlezombie! Whee. :)

And, if you're powerful enough, and want to confuse the heck out of some people, turn some skeletons or corpses to stone, and Animate Object them. Or, just cast that on the corpse. Since the corpse is...well, an Object... :)
