anime challenge

i do that too. like i said i dont like carbon copies, i prefer to take stuff and make a working approximation, like ichigo, maybe a monk with a few levels in sorcerer? sword with ghost touch? sentient sword, what would his familiar be? renji would be easy a monkey but how would you do ichigo?

the one thing about making these type characters is power levels but thats not the fun

i did some research as i didnt know dresdens character too well. it would need to be a gestalt character. wizard, and im going with rogue. wizard would focus on evocation while giving up necromancy while rogue would shore up the private detective side.

would keep int and cha as two primaries. go with high skills in knowledge arcana and the bluff diplomacy intimidate and gather information skills. hand crossbow for the times when magic dont cut it and of course his rings wands and a battle staff. again familiar is where the problem comes in as he doesnt have one. i think theres a feat that allows you to drop familiar for something but i dont remember it off the top of my head

I'm confused about what you mean by not liking carbon copies, but making a working approximation.

Given the system limitations (of the d20 System where recreating characters from fiction is concerned), aren't all characters going to be "working approximations"? What would a "carbon copy" of a character look like - as compared to a "working approximation" - in the d20 System?

well, take lord of the rongs for example. I could make a carbon copy of any of the characters i wanted. but its more fun to make a different class fit into what you want. why i like to use dnd as platform rather than other d20's designed to fit anime type characters. instead of taking a naruto d20 and making a naruto copy. its more fun to me to figure out what class and race combinations i could use to make a naruto approximation. instead of playing a star wars d20 how can i make a jedi fit into dnd?

A popular choice for the people I play with is Gatsu/Guts/that guy with the big sword in the manga Berserk. The problem being that the world of Berserk is very magic deprived, which does indeed make a lot of monsters more powerful in the game (as it is in the manga), but has a problem with game balance. Hard to comprehend how powerful Gatsu/Guts/that guy with the big sword is in comparison. Most PCs result in having too much HD due to wanting the character to be able to do everything its counterpart can. But as already noted, more an issue with the system than anything else. ;)
