Anime Recommendations

I'm an old married girl (32 LOL) and these are the ones that I've liked. Although I haven't watched too much of it lately, and I don't mind gore at all.

Little to no gore on Girlscale:
- .hack/sign
- Lain
- The Last Avatar

Some gore:
- Fullmetal Alchemist

Gory:
- Hellsing

I tried the Evangelion series, but robots are "ehh" to some girls, me included. I prefer fantasy, magic, etc.

This is a good series. There's two forms.

An OVA Series from 5 or 6 yrs ago (deviates from the Manga story in the last Vol, since the Manga hadn't gotten that far when it was made). Some terrific characters. Especially Alucard, who is a blast. Animation is decent, but not exceptional. Terrific opening theme.

Second is called Hellsing: Ultimate (2 volumes out currently) - Animation is supurb! Plot is even better (the Police woman isn't nearly as much of a twit) and the characters retain all of their charms from the original series. However, it is extremely gory (though not sadistic). Still if your wife likes vampire stuff, it's highly recommended.

I'd also throw Witch Hunter Robin into the mix. Very movie-like approach to the series, but some consider it somewhat slow. Has almost no wackiness in it... so it's a bit different from other anime.

On the other end (i.e. quite wacky), I'd say Samurai Champloo, which is something between parody and serious story, though some episodes are very good, even without wackiness.

And I heartily recommend Azumanga Daioh over and over, just as the posters above - it's... as strange as funny. Look out for the opening on YouTube. Yes, the series is as crazy, yet funny as the opening!

Ultimate is also much closer to the manga. And much better - still its gore factor is high, I won't really recommend it to others, unless they like zombie films.

Cheers, LT.

I was reading through this thread and after every post I became more and more confused as to why no-one had mentioned this. I haven't actually had a chance to see more than one episode but I liked it. It's sort of Vampire-hunter-series? At least I think it is :heh: .

I have to second (or third, or...) Mushishi, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and most especially Monster, my favorite anime of all time, but I also recommend the wonderful and beautiful Gankutsuou, a loose adaptation of Alexandre Dumas's The Count of Monte Cristo set in space, far in the future--although it is a future that still happens to resemble 19th century France. :p

While this series is not anime in the traditional sense it is one of the best shows IMHO(animated wise) on tv currently and in the past several years.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

Seasons 1 and 2 are our on DVD now and season 3 just started on Nickelodeon (not Nicktoons though you can catch reruns of the first two seasons there) last week. It's on Fridays at 8:30 est here in the US.

It is geared more to kids but has a large adult following as well. Very well written and the voice acting is great. The characters and story is what makes it shine.
