D&D 5E Announcement coming February 6th

That's what everyone on the forums wants.

So, instead, expect either a devil-themed, or gith vs. mindflayer themed adventure set in the Sword Coast of Faerun.

But hey, there will be an appendix telling us how to adapt it to other settings.
Well, the AP seems like it will involve Lantan, sure.

But, Mearls has also been could talking about how the multiverse setting approach will be explored this year, so expecting something along the lines of what he has been talking about is reasonable.

There's a chance we'll get the Artificer this year. I wouldn't put the percentage at higher than single digits, but it's still a chance!

Also, with all of the uses of the term "D&D Multiverse" we should be getting something planar or multi-setting this year.
Somewhat of a chance, but I'll wager on 2019; wouldn't surprise me if the Mystic and Artificer do end up in the same final product.

My hope, and you may have been the first person to say it out loud, is that we get a mechanical update for the old settings next. It's a pie in the sky wish, especially since psionics aren't close to being ready yet, but that's the one thing that I want.

Here's to hoping!

From the hints Mearls was dropping in the Reddit AMA, I suspect there's a high chance we get the Artificer in 2018 as part of an Eberron book.

Yeah, with him saying "I wouldn't be surprised if we work with Keith Baker this year," we'll be getting something Eberron-related. It may not be a full book, or a section of a book, but it could be UA stuff that they've consulted with him on before releasing. I wouldn't be upset with that either.

Really not sure what form their multiverse product(s) might take, but based on what they have been saying they seem to have thought up a new form for presenting the information. I think that, mechanically, they can get away with doing very little per world, given the minimalist nature of 5E design.

Well, he said we would see another playtest iteration of the Artificer this year, and hinted that Keith Baker might do something with WotC: not necessarily connected thoughts. If the November book is a multiverse book, I wouldn't be surprised if they worked to get input from as many of the relevant creators as possible, like Greenwood or Baker.

Marathon (May 2018) will be a supplement, Broadway (September 2018) is an adventure path, & Catacomb (November 2018) is an adventure path.

Marathon is likely a bunch of mechanics, some of which have been previewed in UA. I bet it is also where we get EPIC rules that expand upon the DMG rules for adventuring beyond 20th level. I'm betting they'll introduce 'EPIC' class that you can multiclass into once you have 20 levels in a particular class and rules for advancing beyond 20th level.

Broadway seems clearly to be Planescape themed. I imagine that this will be an adventure that takes the PCs from the Forgotten Realms to Sigil, and from there they travel to many planes before facing off with a powerful being - perhaps a Great Old One like Cthulhu or a Devil like Asmodeus. I'm betting this path starts around 6th level and runs to 20th - or beyond if I am right about Marathon.

Catacomb still sounds like Undermountain and Waterdeep to me.
