Annoyed with D&D Game Day Characters

First Post
I was looking over the characters for the D&D Game Day and I noticed something strange. At least one of the characters has a feat (Powerful Charge) that is not even in the Player's Handbook! This is just dumb to me. If the Game Day is designed to bring in new players, why would you use a feat that is not even in the Core Rulebooks?

Do they provide enough information on the character sheet to use the feat properly? If so, I don't see any problem.

I see nothing wrong with it.
Well then, you obviously don't understand my point. Game Day is designed to introduce D&D to NEW players. Let's say Little Johnny comes in and plays in the Game Day adventure. He decides to pick up the Player's Kit and goes home with it and the character sheet for his Game Day character. He studies his character a bit and realizes that one of the character's Feats is not even in the book! Boy is he ever confused! Why would you do this to a new player?

Why would you just hand material out to someone knew and expect them to learn it themselves? I would think that would be just as confusing. Introducing people to the game should be helpful and not like just tossing them in the deep end.

But even so, the kid can goto his DM and inquire about it. There is nothing wrong with asking questions and not knowing things.

Is this going to be another thread were everyone get snippy with each other?? Everyone has different views on things. Let's not get upset by them!

Good point, Beldar! :)

For those who do want to make some adjustments to the chaarcter, it is fair to say that they are not optimized. I think my pre-screening on Wednesday evening went fine enough, but some of the things pointed out by the players included the Feat that isn't core, the Paladin's low Charisma (making some class features useless), and a few other statistical mistakes. I'll dig out my PC sheets from the other night and try to post again with the things we happened to notice.

In the meantime, here's another thread I started when they were first made availabel online which includes some points to consider -

If its explained on the sheet, its fine. Even moreso if the source of the feat is cited. I highly doubt Little Johnny is going to have a major freakout and gain a negative imrpession of D&D based off one Feat on a Pregen's sheet.

Powerful Charge can be described in less than a sentence, and if we're talking new players they would probably need to be reminded what the PHB feats did as well, so it's not really adding any complexity. Now if we were talking Vow of Poverty or something, I'd agree, but Powerful Charge is a pretty straightforward feat.
