In the campaign I'm currently playing in, I'm running an Anointed Knight (from the Book of Exalted Deeds), and with my next level, I'm going to be capable of anointing my weapon with the Unicorn Blood ability. I'm curious if anyone has taken a hard look at the ability or dealt with it in their campaign, as it strikes me as a bit on the potent side. Essentially, after gaining the ability, any evil creature injured by the weapon is affected by the effects of Unicorn Blood.
Unicorn Blood requires a DC 17 Fort save, and does 1d3/1d4 STR damage. Further as its a ravage, the damage is increased by the CHA modifier of the creature struck. Undead (and elementals I think? - don't have the book handy) take an extra point and evil clerics of evil deities (and evil outsiders?) take an extra 2 points of damage. It only affects evil creatures too.
Is this too much of an ability? I'm leaning towards yes myself but am curious what everyone else thinks. Also, does anyone have any suggestions for toning it down a bit or replacing it with an alternate ability? We're currently considering replacing the anointing effect with making the weapon holy (DMG weapon effect) or making the weapon an Item Familiar (from Unearthed Arcana). Any other ideas, suggestions, or comments out there?
