Another d100 adventuring ideas thread.

Dark Jezter

First Post
It's been a while since we've had one of these, so I decided to make another thread for d100 adventure ideas (much like the one found on pages 44-45 of the 3.5e DMG).

I'll start...

1. Recently, it has become impossible to light a fire inside the city limits. Any attempts to ignite something even as small as a candle results in the fire immediately fizzling out.

2. A trail leading through the wilderness has inexplicably changed its destination, and now leads those who walk it right back to where they started at.

3. Drinking water from a recently-tapped well results in the person who drank it falling into a sleep that lasts for an entire day. When they awake, all their wounds and other ailments are healed. This strange healing water only works when consumed within close proximity to the well.

4. Several inns in town are now selling a new kind of beverage, and customers don't want to drink anything else. Beer's, wine's, and other habitual beverages' brewers / producers are going bankrupt. In the meantime, life in town seems to become quieter, and people seem to work more and harder and laugh much less. Joy and life slowly deserts town. Then, a new temple is being constructed, but it seems that nobody knows what deity it will be dedicated to.

5. Fishermen are catching much bigger fishes (or hunters much bigger game) lately. But at the same time, a few people have disappeared, and some pretend to have seen a dire white shark in the bay (dire wolf in the woods).

6. One month ago a terrifying and powerful looking warrior in demon plate-mail rode into town. He went directly to the middle of the market place and sank his (obviously magical) great sword into the ground, across the stones of the pavement. Then he died. Since then, a ghost seems to be guarding the sword; commerce has been disrupted; and rumors tell that strange people have been spotted around market place on several occasion, usually at night.

7. A new crusade is being declared (maybe it's the first to happen in the campaign). Priests are calling for people to join and go to the distant land where the prophet was born so long ago (or had the Truth revealed to him, etc.), to fight back the forces of evil that are invading it. A new order of Knight Hospitallers is being created to help and assist those who will join the crusade during their long trip toward this distant land. Now there are rumors telling that crusaders are in fact sent there to feed the evil hordes rather than fight them. Yet there is always discontent people in every venture, especially dangerous ones, isn't it?

8. A portal leading to the Astral Plane has recently been discovered in the basement of the mayor's house. The mayor has agreed to let the githyanki hatch their eggs on the Material Plane in exchange for his own detachment of githyanki soldiers to command as he pleases.

9. Every night, heavily-armed, ghostly soldiers appear to stand watch at the town gates. They vanish during the daytime.

10. A plague has broken out which affects only spellcasters, slowly draining their magical ability and rendering them weak, feverish and prone to lapses of extreme confusion and metal trauma. None of the scholars in the town have been able to figure out the cause of the plague, and have decided that it must be a curse of some kind.

11. This one is all about rumors. A strange black carriage with green velvet curtains, dark hooded servitors and accompanying cavaliers, has been spotted in several places along the road. This has alerted the authorities, and now detachments of guards roam the countryside aggressively enquiring any stranger they find. Some brigands have used the rumor to cover their own exactions, and in the meantime a prophet says to have had revelations of an impending supernatural disaster. Populations around are on the verge of panic. Yet, it is impossible to find anybody that has personally seen the carriage, or to find actual tracks of it...

12. A tribe of ogres have come down from the mountains, seeking refuge from the horror that drove them from their homes.

13. An old woman appeared in town a couple of months ago, threatening to curse the town if she didn't recieve a tribute in gold. The townspeople refused, and since then there hasn't been any rain and the streams are beginning to dry up. If this continues, the crops will die and the people will starve.

14. These last months several persons have disappeared without leaving any tracks. They could be anyone from the simplest of laborer, to, recently, the mayor's daughter. Gather Information only reports that the missing persons had suddenly become sad and dreamy, and nostalgic about something. Another person in the vicinity is likewise afflicted: if asked, she would tell having spotted an emerald-green light far away on the horizon some night ago; and now evey night she tries to see it again. It fills her mind, and she cannot think of anything else. Then, one night, when none will be noticing, she will depart and follow that light, to forever disappear. Woe to the one who next see this green light in the middle of a foggy night.

Hey Dark Jezter, maybe you could give me some little help with my own d100 thread (about cities)? Thanks.

15. Five times in the past two weeks, a person has been (apparently) murdered on a certain street in the city. The murders all happened late at night, with no apparent motive and no known connection between the victims, except that they all came to this one city block. That district is a center for certain, um, nocturnal trades, and unless the local pimps can establish a somewhat better reputation for safety they're not likely to remain in business. After the third unexplained death a consortium of nocturnal businesspeople hired an unusually large security detail to patrol the street; this didn't stop mysterious deaths #4 and #5. Now they want to hire a more adventurous group to investigate.

16. Six months ago a group of adventurers ventured from the small village at the foot of a mountain in search of a lost tomb. A week after they left the village was besiged by strange Red Skinned Trolls, the Trolls proved entirely immune to fire and every time they were about to totally destroy the village the retreated back to the mountains. Today the village is little better that a poorly fortfied wall surrounding ruins and home to a dozen or so people waiting in fear for the next attack from the Red Trolls.
