Wow. That's some heavy stuff. What happened to Celebrian? Is she alive but not a character, or did something happen to her, prior to the beginning of LotR? That certainly changes my perception of Elrond's relationship with Galadriel. It makes it a much more complex relationship than leader to leader.

If I recall correctly, A little before FotR Celebrian was captured by Orcs and later rescued by Elrond, the events during her capture scarred her in such a fashion that she was sent to the grey havens to heal and recover.

Celebrian was travelling between Rivendell and Lorien (visiting her mother an father) when she was captured by orcs. Her sons, Elladan and Elrohir, hunted them down and rescued her. She was so traumatized that she went west over the sea. This happened about 500 years before the beginning of tthe Fellowship of the Ring.
