Another Gamer in Need - Please Help Him

I haven't seen this mentioned here, so I thought I'd share this with everyone. This community helped Paladinwife & I when we needed help, and this gamer's plight makes ours seem trivial.

From Andy Collins' site, as posted by Andy:

On Friday, February 6th, my friends Brent and Francesca Pearson brought into this world their first child, a wonderful baby boy named Daniel Simone Pearson.

But joy turned quickly to sorrow as Francesca's health rapidly faltered. Two days later, Francesca was moved to intensive care. Despite the best efforts of the doctors, on the afternoon of February the 18th--not quite two weeks after giving birth to Daniel--Francesca passed away.

While there is nothing that any of us can do to lessen this tragedy, I also know that I must do whatever I can to help one of my best and oldest friends get through the hardest time of his life.

Those of you who have been following the campaign updates for Bloodlines may already feel like they know Brent a little bit as the player behind the sneaky temple raider, Caedrus. But that doesn't begin to cover it.

In real life, Brent is an extraordinarily gifted musician and teacher, working tirelessly to share his love of music with a new generation of students. He's been my good friend since third grade, and we might as well have been brothers for the amount of time we spent in each others' homes growing up. Despite living 50 miles apart today, we still see each other regularly at gaming sessions (though not as often as we'd like).

To help Brent and his baby boy in their time of need, Gwendolyn and I are establishing The Daniel Fund. Its mission: to ensure that "Mr. Daniel," as he's called, has every opportunity to grow up and become a gamer like his proud daddy.

To that end, we call upon the help of our readers. If you gamers out there can see it in your hearts to help out another gamer in need, we encourage you to contribute whatever you can to The Daniel Fund.

In return, Gwendolyn and I pledge to match every dollar* contributed to this cause. That means that even a $10 gift to The Daniel Fund is actually worth $20 toward diapers, formula, babysitting, and Daniel's first set of dice.

Your donations can be sent to the following address:

That's really tragic. "(...)and Daniel's first set of dice" struck a nerve somehow.

One keeps wondering what a lame-ass world we live in where a mother dies after/because of child birth.

I'll try to contact Andy. While I'm willing to donate I don't see me sending money in an envelope. Maybe he can set up a paypal account.

WARNING: Sad story ahead - you might want to skip it...

We had a very similar case in our family (well, in my girlfriend's family, but that's synonym), but mother and baby died. The father came home from the hospital and his three kids, 4 to 12 years old, were already waiting for him, asking: "How's our new brother?"
So yes, I can relate.

It is sad to see the cycle of birth and death to be in the same event. I wish Daniel the best and for his Father to get through this ordeal.

set a paypal account and many will donate.
The community has exhibited an unsurpassed generosity towards others that they barely know. And I believe as gamers we all share a common "bloodline". My prayers to father and son, and when the account is set up, I will also donate there.

So how are those Paladins doin', anyway?
Thanks for asking, I finally do have something to report. We're okay for the moment, and - no one pass out - I actually had this thing called a "job interview" yesterday! It's the first one I've had this whole time I've been laid off. I was applying for a Project Management position, but (like every other place I've talked to) once I got there they want me to do sales. Something I've never done in my life. But, due to our circumstances I told them I'd give it a try. So, I have to go in tomorrow for some sort of sales "boot camp" to see if I'm "sales material". I guess we'll see then!

Little update...

By the way, Andy posted here that he's going to set-up a PayPal account for The Daniel Fund. I posted there for him to let us know when he got it going. Paladinwife & I are going to get a newborn care package together and send it out ASAP. A close friend of ours had a baby boy about 8 months ago, so she has quite a bit of now out-grown clothes that I'm sure she won't mind donating to such a worthy cause. We'll be sending along a "Baby Gamer" bag as well (granted he'll just drool on it for a while, but it can hold that all-important first set of dice one day :D )
