Another new campaign - What to play

We're shaping up to be in a similar, but not quite as hard-pressed, boat -- a knight (that's me), a monk (possibly), two rogues, a warlock, and a fighter. The player of one of the rogues is intending to multiclass into cleric if she lasts that long (she hasn't gone into why.) If one of us dies before that, they'll probably pick up the healing slack. :)

Out of curiosity, do you roll or point-buy stats?

He had us roll then arbitrarily (IMO) assigned modifiers to make the stats 'heroic'.

AKA...all stats are really high.

Oh yeah, the ranger can use CLW wands, so you sort of have a healer once you get 750 gp.

My rogue can use CLW wands, but CLW does not a healer make. Well, I guess technically it does, BUT what about once we start getting poisoned and cursed and drained and diseased and...dead?

Given the ranger or my rogue, I would say that my rogue would be using the wand 98% of the time while the ranger is full PA with two shortswords...and cursing because it's 'not working'.

(did I say Orz yet?)

I remember some computer RPGs where people would click reroll for *hours* trying to get the stats they wanted... There was something in the OP that reminded me of that.

But if the DM is arbitrarily modifying stats, then the gambling compulsion (just one more!) isn't really a factor.

OK, so I think that I've come up with a good solution here.

I've invited a friend to play, with the DMs blessing. He'll make up a roguish type character and I'll go for the theurge.

Disaster averted! (I hope)
