It looks like he quit because he was fed up with the toxic community. Can't say I blame him. I've always wondered how a game that fundamentally involves interacting with other human beings attracts so many angry, entitled people.

I've been amazed with the amount of rage and entitlement that this hobby seems to attract
 

You definitely need a thick skin, especially if you write content for players. While it would be nice for everyone to like my stuff, I know that's unlikely to happen. For my 4e freelance stuff I've done for DDI I measure success by the fact that I like what I wrote, WotC liked what I wrote, and at least one other person out there likes it.
