Another word for 'Troll'

Ent.

I know that most people think of them as treants because of Tolkien's book, but the anglo-saxon word originally described any giant-like creature. "Gi-ent" rather than "tre-ent" as it were.

I'd go with "Ent" for an older teutonic feel or "Jotun" for more of a Norse feel.

Or you can choose a name from mthology and use it as a race name - Grendel has a certain ring...

I never thought of monster names as anything more than game names. Meaning they are probably called all sorts of different names depending on the part of the game world you play in.

Still, "Droppin' Trow" does have a certain ring to it in that neo-medieval off-color colloquialism sort of way.

Hmm... I'm not overly fond of the two-headed ettin. I could just eliminate the MM critter and snag the name.

How can you not like Ettin? In an evil game I run I had a girlfiend/boyfriend pair drop in for one game, I had them each play one head of an Ettin, it was awesome. And for NPC ettins it's just too much fun to have them argue about stuff. (sometimes I'll get so carried away it calls for a CR reduction)

Wow - thread necromancy has finally mixed with spam!

If we're not careful to control it, years worth of old threads could come back to life. :p
