I just allow a "counter-tumble" using Tumble or Sense Motive, much the same as resisting a Feint. Make the check and you can get an AoO or whatever.

Tumble doesn't evade AoO. Instead, your tumble check result replaces your AC (unless your AC is higher).
The reason why I'm doing it is that the current tumble mechanic is so 2e: You have a fixed DC, and if you make that check, you're good. No one can stop you. Not even a god could get an AoO. I prefer to give everyone a chance. Not have characters playing against the wall, so to speak.
I do something similar with concentration and casting defensively.
Maybe you can help me out with step 2 hereTarionzCousin said:At higher levels, it is very easy for a PC with max ranks in tumble and a high Dexterity to destroy poor Joe Monster.![]()

Step 1 - max out tumble
Step 2 - ???
Step 3 - win D&D
I see what you mean. Tumble is clearly the problem hereDrowbane said:Step 2: combat monster PC who can/does...
1) charge/pounce
2) has Shadowblade feat with a really high dex mod (I think he just hit 50ish dex)
3) TWF chain and Chaos Monk (dragon mag?)... something like 6-9 attacks
4) and about 7d6 Sneak + Shadow Blend + Darkstalker feat5) typically only misses on a 1
...and who "1-shot" (full attack) critters well above his CR.
Last session he "cored" two CR 18 red Dragons in as many rounds.
All you had to say was "I don't know, nor do I have anything useful to say"amethal said:I see what you mean. Tumble is clearly the problem here![]()

Kahuna Burger said:If you were to invent such a feat, I would model it on Mage Slayer, including the fact that the potential tumbler realizes from the opponent's stance/fighting style that tumble might not work this time.... (I think that should be included in any feat that invents new excuses for AoOs, but that's just me.)
