D&D 5E Any chance they would release basic...

I printed a digest version at home and had Staples spiral bind it. The print is a little small, but still legible, especially if you're just using it for reference. It fits very nicely in the Starter Set box, too. When the final version is released later this year, I'll do the same, though I might have Staples print it for me since I only have an inkjet, and I would prefer something that held up to dampness a little better (we do have drinks at the gaming table, after all). I also printed out the playtest monsters and made a Binder Full of Monsters (my not-so-subtle Mitt Romney joke).

Not sure why the image appears upside down to me.

The basic rules as they stand right now make for a great player's guide. I will probably get it printed soon. I probably won't get the full basic rules printed since I will have the hardbacks by then.

Yeah, as it stands, it would neat if they printed a players guide, kind of like numenera did. I love that idea of a cheap cost effective way of just building characters. I have basic printed right now, and its not a lot of hassle, but I would love full color basic with the nice backgrounds on the pages instead of plain white. I can't print that, it would destroy my toner cartridge.

Looking at staples.ca printing Basic right now will cost $50 on standard 8.5x11 paper with spiral bind. Comb binding is a hair cheaper. However, going to black + white is $15, even with a colour cover.
But I'm waiting until we get the MM and DMG rules, which will likely double the cost.
Unfortunately, I don't see a way to make it digest sized online. That might be an in-store request that might reduce the cost.

When/if I do print, I'll likely add the cover I designed to the mix.

Strange, it is right-side up on my iPad, and upside down on my laptop.

Does anyone think there is a chance that basic would ever be released in a book (paperback most obviously) or even better, some readers digest sized books ala 4e essential line? Id buy one if it was really cheap (15-20 bucks).
Such a product would be competing directly with all three hardcover CRBs. So while you may eventually see them release a softcover basic book in an effort to capture a lower price point in the book market, I don't think it'll be very soon. And maybe never.
