any chummers out there still play Shadowrun? (also: d20 vs SR 3ed)

Most of the guys have already answered your questions. Regarding the books that I would recomend to start your campaign those would be:
3rd Edition Shadowrun
Shadows of North America
Seattle Sourcebook (old one)
New Seattle

The idea to buy them on ebay is the best one. Dont through you old books away. There are plenty of good information on them to keep them and use them a lot.
I wish you good luck with your game. I am positive you will have a wonderful time. :D

Best regards

Skills also changed. More points and they're more detailed- examples - firearms is now 5-6 different skills, melee is also 5-6.

This is one of the 3e mistakes, I think. There's no practical difference between using a rifle and a shotgun, yet they're different skills. There's also no practical difference between firing an Ingram Smartgun in semi-auto and firing a Predator II in semi-auto, either.

I'd've switched it to four firearms-based skills: Smallarms, Longarms, Autofire Weapons, and Heavy Weapons (maybe break that up some more...). But, really, there's no reason to have to take ranks in Pistol, SMG, Rifle, Assault Rifle (!), Shotgun, and Light Machine Gun. Oy.

It´s usually unfair to "street samurais", since the spellcasters just need 2 skills to be good at their job.
On the other hand, if you specialise on a single weapon type, this allows you to use all the skill points on other skills, broading your abilities. (Unfortunatelly, you might be better off buying skillwires...)

If someone is starting the pbp SR game, I would be interested. I have only played one campaign of SR (using mainly 2E rules), I have a lot of the books. I have tried to get my gaming group into it but they are mainly interested in fantasy gaming.

Thanks,
hyulf
