I haven't seen anything, myself. Curious about this, too.
I'd be so thrilled if one day they were just like, "Oh hey, here's the beta version of the D&D virtual game table. Have fun!"
I'm willing to bet the gold piece value of a mule that the next DDI update removes those extra circles because they are no longer pursuing online play. I think this because they removed any mention of adding anything new to DDI. They don't even have articles on DDI development anymore. I hope i'm wrong because I have friends online that I would really like to use the online gaming table with. I also will probably cancel my subscription soon after the psionic powers book comes out just because I see no point in paying 10 dollars a month for online magazines that I don't use. I started a subscription in support of the gaming table and frankly I feel like they are taking it and putting it in their pockets.
According to Lou Huderski (part of the DDI studio at WotC), the studio is involved in "several other super-secret projects" in addition to maintaining and updating the Character Builder and Monster Builder apps. We also know from other various WotC staff that there are unannounced digital projects in active development. I'm sure that we would have already heard about these projects if this were 2008, but the amount of poo flung at them by the community for missing their original launch deadline has forced them to implement the no-announcing-it-until-it's-nearly-ready strategy that a lot of high-profile game studios use. Fortunately, their track record so far on application quality has been very good. When they do release the next big D&D digital tool, I expect that it will be awesome.I'm willing to bet the gold piece value of a mule that the next DDI update removes those extra circles because they are no longer pursuing online play.
