D&D 5E Any DMs ever use Tact-Tiles?

Hexes are one of the stretch goals for the Kickstarter -- if they reach $200K. Right now they're at about $66K with 11 days to go.

Personally, I have a mild case of Tact-Tiles envy, but they just won't fit into my budget. That Paizo Flip-Mat is less versatile than a set of Tact-Tiles, but it's a little more area than an Economy Set of Tact-Tiles for a fraction of the price.

If one company was able to make Tact-Tiles without a kickstarter, then a different company (assuming that this is a different company) should be able to make them with a $66K budget. Just saying. The internet suckers a lot of people in with kickstarters.

My group has been using them for years and we love them. Could use a new set as the current set is a bit beat up and has some marker stains that just won't come off.

Here is a trick for removing permanent marker stains from most white boards:

Draw over it completely in erasable marker. Now erase both at once.*

This works with old stains which are supposed to be erasable too.

There's a reason said companies went out of business trying to make these. Kickstarter is the perfect opportunity to bring them back without taking huge chances.

I had a set of these when they first came out. I sold them to a friend (mistake) and I was one of the last people to get another set they let me buy some defective ones that werent totally horrible.

These were still pretty good but they were harder to clean.

I later bought an alternative product Battleboards? which were very good for dry erase (except you cant get them wet) they also had hex versions.


I loved them but they can be a bit heavy to carry around

Nope. One and the same.

It actually is a different company. But the guy who runs Void Star Studios knows the original creators and acquired the rights to produce them. These are actually a little bit nicer than the originals also, the originals only support dry erase markers, where these support both dry and wet erase.

I have a set of Battlegraph dry erase boards, which are basically a knock off of the original tact-tiles, and they're fantastic. I was ecstatic when I heard the originals were being produced again as they are much higher quality and more durable than battlegraphs.

I have a friend who used to GM with them. Since even then they were long out of print, he was very paranoid about scratching them, so no metal bases on minis allowed!

When the kickstarter came out, I posted it to Facebook and he replied saying that he had sold his set, moved onto the Paizo mats, and hasn't regretted it. As a player, it was very cool and modular, but unless you're DMing at home, it might be a pain to track them around and be sure to have a suitable table or playing space to be able to set them up.

I've got a set of 12 of them from very near the end of the first era -- maybe even last printing. They are fantastic. I cannot recommend them enough. After ten-ish years, mine are still in near mint condition; they've been used, but hold up well.

I'm considering getting a set of the new ones because:
a) These sound like an even higher quality version.
b) I'm thinking of blank tiles.

Mine are in such good shape that I doubt I'll actually get another set, but a couple guys at my table may.
