Any fans of the Might & Magic games still alive?

I looved M&M IV. I haven't played any of the ones since then, though. Are they mostly turn-based like IV? If I was going to pick one to pick up, which would you guys suggest? (As a fan of IV. :P)

I never got much of a chance to play these games, but my GF is a huge fan of the Heroes of M&M series with number 2 being her favorite. She has gotten me to play that one in a multiplayer setting in the past, but it's been a little while since she and I have played.

The old DOS-based ones are turn-based and 6-8 are pausable real-time by default; you can go turn-based by, essentially, fighting while paused (the monsters will take turns too if you do this) but in 6 it robs you of the ability to move and screws up the timing calculations (both problems were fixed for 7 and 8).

Really? HOMM2 is her favorite? That's interesting, because HOMM3 is basically the same game, only greatly expanded and improved. I enjoyed HOMM2, but HOMM3 is one of my all-time favorite turn-based strategy games. They went in a different direction with HOMM4, and it wasn't as good IMO (and there were some unfortunate bugs), but I don't think I've ever heard of anyone preferring the second game to the third one before, because HOMM3 is basically HOMM2+++.
