Any Fellow readers of the Mars series by Kim Stanley Robinson?

So, upon hearing that d20 future is around the corner, I started to think back to some of my favorite books, and came to the Mars series. I read through it about two years ago, but I've never been able to stop thinking about how much I enjoyed it.

Hard sci-fi at its best, with a good basis for all of the science involved, as well as lots of opprotunities for a game, it seems.

Anybody else share these feelings? I've become quite taken by these idea, and am wondering if anybody else read the series and felt liked it as much as I did.

You're talking Red Mars, Green Mars, and Blue Mars, correct?

Try getting GURPS Mars, that I think had some of the series in it.

If not that, try GURPS Alpha Centauri, based on the computer game, which was based on the trio of novels. :)

That's all I can think of. You'd have to convert over to d20 Future, though.

I read the books, and overall enjoyed them, though I felt the quality of them went down a lot, especially with Blue Mars. The first one is by far and away my favorite.

[edit] Now The Years of Rice and Salt was a great book, I liked it better than any of the Mars books, although it does start off a bit slow.

I agree and I don't agree :) I vary between the 1st and 2nd books as my favourite, though the series as a whole is probably one of my favourite Sci-Fi reads.

The three books seemed to each have their own theme.
  • The first was the adventure of colonising a new planet.
  • The second the emergence of a government and its ideals.
  • The third the compromises that have to be made for the government to function

So pick a book for the campaign flavour of your choice.

Would be nearly impossible to game

the Mars trilogy would end up like that movie the Governator made about 10 years ago.

How about John Carter "Warlord of Mars"? Venus as a jungle "tarzan-like" world and mars as a desert "arabian adventures" world... that would be a blast.
