Any ideas for a 4th Edition fighter / thief / magic-user?

Dragon sorcerer with a 13 dex, the new rogue multiclass feat from Martial power. Str is a secondary stat, so you can melee people all you want.

Eladrin swordmage with rogue skills also does it quite well.

You're not going to get a fighter, rogue, and mage play style in one character, in 4e. Which is a good thing.

Old-school, baby.

Half-elf, most likely. Tradition.

I'm leaning toward Swordmage . . . Sneak of Shadows and Ritual Magic and Skill Training: Stealth, and you pretty much have the archetype covered. Not sure what to do for an paragon path, though . . .

Any other ideas?

Others have noted that Eladrin would be a better build. You have proficiency with longsword and get an extra out-of-class skill, which could be used for stealth. The thief component is reflected just in the skills that you buy, in my method.

From there it depends on whether you want to be heavier on fighter or MU. My personal preference would be a Warlock for the magic component, because Thievery is a class skill; two for one. You could go Wizard as primary, but then you don't get Thievery as a class skill.

Multi into Swordmage gives you the ability to take the Intelligent Blademaster feat. Like you said, Ritual Caster and you've got a pretty heavy on magic Striker, with basic fighting ability for close-up work.

The alternative is to go with Swordmage and Ritual Caster Feat, and ignore the heavier magic combat aspects that don't have to do directly with whacking something with a sword. You'd still want an Eladrin, for the bonus skill. An encounter teleport also isn't half bad.
