Any love for the Iron Kingdoms setting?

Setting and background wise I think it's great but rules wise I think they books fall down a bit. Things range from overpowered with no drawbacks, (Greatcoats, Cleft blades) to unnessarily complex (Mechanikal devices) to flawed (Pistoleer, the number of feats you need to be remotely effective with firearms). Plus the whole thing is printed on stupid grey on grey, which looks horrible and isn't fun to read. The Monster book is cool however.

I disagree on pretty much every point, but this is proof that no matter HOW well-made something is, there will always be those who don't like it.

IK is a fantastic setting. It's broadly 3.5 compatible but you really do need to read those rules closely before introducing them to your game -- their balance/precision of compatibility with core 3.5 mechanics is a bit wonky in places.

Personally as an aside, I'd very much love to see IK developed as a standalone game powered by something like True20.

IK is my favorite setting ATM. It's some of the best written fluff on the market today. Some of the campaign rules are funny, but nothing that I'd call overly broken. The Monsternomincon is hands down the best monster book on the market as well.

The Monsternomicon IS one of the best monster books out there. I don't play in the IK setting but it looks good. My brother is about done running thru Witchfire with his players and has had good things to say about it.

A few weeks ago there was a huge sale at my LGS. I happened to pick up the Monsternomicon 3.5 for dirt cheap, not even realizing what it was that I had until I read it. Except for the crapload of flavour text, I happen to love the book. I can't wait to use all kinds of crazy monsters that I *know* my players have never seen before.

I thought the flavor text was pretty cool, myself. Also. to give you an idea of what the book's got to offer:

Size comparison chart with a normal human
flavor text
at least one illustration
legends & lore
adventure seeds

....for EVERY MONSTER!
