First Post
I'm playing an elven monk in an FR campaign, I've chosen dodge and weapon finesse, and i'm heading towards spring attack.
Are there any good monk prestige classses out there besides those in Sword 'n Fist?

THere are some in OA and the Rokugen book. It really depends on what you are aiming for. There are some in Path of Swords and Quint Monk, and then theres a pdf by Chanimale Bikini that I keep hearing is excellent.

A few have appeared in Dragon magazine over the past couple of years. One of my players is contemplating the Reaper's Child PrC from issue #299 - a lawful evil monk devoted to Nerull. You should also check out the PrC's from Dragon #289 (the OA focus issue) and from #281 (the Psionics focus issue), although the PrC's in the latter are definitely geared toward githzerai characters, IRC.

My favorite monks:

From Oriental Adventures:

Shintao Monk - I think they're supposed to be Rokugan's version of Shaolin monks. They've got some nice abilities, but most importantly, they gain a bonus martial arts feat every other level! Those bonus feats really help when it comes to mastering martial arts styles (as described in OA).

Tattooed Monk - A monk that gets magic tattoos every other level. Some of them are pretty killer, like damage resistance and haste self.

From Dragon magazine:

Acolyte of the Fist - Channel supernatural powers through your fist. Heal instead of harm with your punches. Choose your damage type, slashing or piercing damage instead of bludgeoning (piercing damage? what kind of unarmed attack is that, the eye gouger?). Channel force blasts through your fist, or shroud it in energy (fire, lightning, cold, acid, sonic).

From Path of the Sword:

Ki Warrior - Use ki power to perform supernatural feats, like smashing inanimate objects, attacking everyone within melee range, and throwing energy balls (fire or electricity).

The best part about OA monks is that they can swap out class features for martial arts feats, if they want. So you make second level and normally you'd get Deflect Arrows, but you decide to swap that out for Choke Hold instead. Pretty cool. It allows you to build up a martial arts style chain, and if you get all the feats in the chain, you get a bonus free ability at the end for mastering the "style." OA is the best thing that ever happened to Monks.

OA Goodness

I adore Monks, and must agree OA is the book that every Monk player shoudl own. (Actually, I belive every DnD player shoudl own it, but then I have a huge oriental bias! :p )

And just something I like to point out, OA is as much a 'cannonical' product as the Psionics HB, or any of the class splatbooks. If your GM allows you to play a Monk, and allows the other players to use things like, oh, Tome & Blood then you are justified in using OA.

Ki-yaa!
