Any of you suffering from Monty Haul Syndrome

I loaded up my players PC's with some decent goodies in my (Just begun) Eberron campaign. I think if I was going with any other setting I wouldn't have given them as much. Eberron strikes me as an "over the top" setting and I think it begs for a high powered game.

I've been having a stint of reverse-MHS. That is, recently the events of my weekly game have made it that the vast majority of enemies the characters have been facing are humans/oids with NPC and PC levels. Because of this I am afraid to give the npcs too much stuff and boost the power level and run the risk of 'over' equiping the characters and thus the characters have been in a 'loot draught'.

The moral of this story and what I learned from it is that monsters are really important to D&D and fantasy worlds.

I use the DMG's treasure generator and every 2-3 levels do an audit and compare to the recommended wealth tables. Usually the party tends to be low, justifying my use of PC investment rules and story-based awards to make up the difference.
