Any Official Comments on Feats Awarded Vs. Feats Available?

I could swear that somewhere, someone from WotC had said that the rate of feats given out in the PHB was commensurate to the amount available in the PHB. Thus, if you add a lot of feats to your game, you should increase the amount of feats given out. [Edit: Not by that much--IIRC the ratio was one extra feat per 25 feats available.]

Can anyone confirm or deny this? Am I just senile?

I do not think such would apply to Feats. That sounds, philosophically, more appropriate for Skill Points.

The number of Skill Points each class gets is carefully balanced to the number of Skills available. You will note that Wizards adds more tasks to existing skills rather than creating new ones, and even cut back on the number of skills overall in the 3.0 -> 3.5 update.

i would have to think that if this was an intentional design feature then one of the many sourcebooks which added feats by the score would have mentioned it.

frankly, the number of "feats not taken" isn't by any means going to affect balance or playability UNLESS the new feats start splitting previous ones into multiple... and that hasn't seemed to be the case.

so, i think its not a reality.

This is the first time I hear such a thing...

On one hand, having twice the feats for each character would be fantastic :)

On the other hand, because one core class is based on bonus feats (Fighter), and changing how everyone gets feats would require seriously rethinking the fighter, doubling feats is quite impossible :(

One thing about feats is that many of them are cool tricks, but will never be taken because they don't compete well with other feats. I was thinking about awarding some extra feat choices from a highly limited list to compensate.

I'd agree that your comment probably refers more to skills.

This is one reason why I love the UA Action Points. Spending an Action Point to Emulate a Feat allows for a wider range of feats actually seeing use.
