Any reason outside of Roleplaying that someone would pick Half Orc over Human?

Asking as i'd like to role play a Half Orc but i'm hoping i don't get stuck with a character that cant pull his own weight. Are they good only in a Barbarian role? even in that role isn't human or Dwarf a better choice? what say you guys?

They work best as melee crushers (the +2 Str is handy), though they're fine in any class that doesn't rely on Int or Cha. My half-orc druid works pretty well, since he can fight effectively even when not Wildshaped.

Yes, half-orc is an inferior race choice, but going for style really isn't going to hurt you much.

For the Horde, and all that.

I've played a half-orc barbarian and we now have a half orc cleric.

Both were (and still is, in the case of the cleric) melee beasts. +2 to strength and darkvision is nothing to sneeze at.

I'v never understood all the fuss being made about half-orcs. IIR, it's the only race (except some funky FR elves) that have bonus to strength

If you want a powerful barbarian, I'd go with half-orc.

If you want a giant-slaying barbarian, I'd go with dwarf.

If you want a roleplaying barbarian character, I'd go with a halfling.

PErsonally, I think 1/2 orcs make better fighters than barbarians. What makes 1/2 orcs good is +2 str, what make humans good is an extra feat. If you play a fighter having one more feat isn't necessarily worth a +2 str.

There really isn't any reason to choose Human over Halforc for a fighter.
--The copious amount of feats makes the human bonus feat less important.
--The fighter skill list is so limiting that even the 2 extra SP/level don't work out to that much.
--Int and Cha are most often a fighter's dump stats anyway, at least for a "grrrr, Me crush with sword" kind of fighter
--Darkvision is helpful as all get out.

Sure, Halforcs are suboptimal for most builds, but this isn't true for fighters, and not really true for barbarians either, though the extra feat and skills become more important.

i say half-orcs make the best fighters. Fighters are all about strength, about crushing your enemies and seeing them driven before you.

Dwarves on the other hand ... are the bestest barbarians ever. Barbarians can take a lickin, and the +2 con just reinforces that.

but, just imho.
