Well?

PDF?

Some sort of proprietary format? (Nontransferable or only accessible while online?)

I'm guessing the second option... Which kind of makes me sad...

Why does it seem like everyone assumes that the DDI articles will be online only? This is in direct contradiction to a point-blank answer from one of the WotC guys on this very site (I can't search, so no linkee).

You will be able to download DDI articles and use them even if you cancel your subscription. It would make sense that you'd better do the downloading before you cancel, but that's life. Put the KY away.

My guess is that the core format will PDF as it is the most common mass media format out there right now. However, keep in mind that PDFs can be released with Digital Rights Management (DRM) controls. It is not difficult to protect a PDF from unauthorized viewing, copying, printing and distribution. You can also control how they are used, by whom, for how long and when. I would not put it past WotC, in an attempt to protect their subscriptions, to release the DDI PDFs as DRM controlled.

I hope they will not use DRM. If they want to protect PDF's (if there will be PDF's) then hopefully per Watermarks. They are much more acceptable and unproblematic as a customer (see the evolution of Drivethrourpg.com) and are harder to "crack" than DRM's so it's a win/win Situation.

Ah I didn't see the download part. That will make me happy, as sometimes I find myself in situations where all the books on my thumbdrive work better then a site I have to access to get to them.
