Any Wrestling Sourcebooks?

First Post
Are there any sourcebooks out there which focus on wrestling material (for any current rules system)? I did some searching on RPGNow, but didn't really find anything like that. A Google search turned up an archived thread here which talked about such a book being planned, though that was back in 2002 - so I'm not sure if it did get produced.

I'm primarily thinking of pro-wrestling, since that would probably lend itself most easily to this kind of thing. Naturally modern forms of combative grappling are already covered in more general works on martial arts or general fighting, and I guess traditional wrestling styles (eg. ancient Greek, Cumberland & Westmoreland) wouldn't be of as much interest to most people - at least not to the point where they would want to buy a sourcebook detailing historical grappling styles. Instead that kind of thing would probably be better placed in individual sourcebooks pertaining to the period or region in question. For example, something on ancient Athens might include a section on Hellenic sports such as wrestling, whereas something on Victorian England might include a little bit about Cornish wrestling etc. But I digress...

Just wondering about whether or not there are any pro-wrestling sourcebooks, and whether it would be worth trying to put one together.

Thanks.

I've never seen anything like that. I imagine, in a D&D game, you'd roll Grapple checks normally and the types of holds you'd be using would be a matter of color rather than mechanics.

There are a few prestige classes I've seen that focus on wrestling and gladitorial fights, though.

There's a WWE focused OGL game called "Know Your Role". Here's the link to it at the enworld store. I haven't played it, so I don't know much about it. I have seen it discussed in the OGL forum in the past few months, but search didn't cooperate in finding any threads.

I thought there would be line drawn @ some point as to what people are willing to publish as an RPG. I guess my estimation of where that line would be drawn was totaly wrong. :p

"Know Your Role" is actully a pretty good adaptation of the D20 rules to Wrestling. It is a very good system of narrative combat and emulating a full WWE show, not just the matches.

It's a testament to the adaptability of the D20 system that it could be done. I peeked at it at my FLGS and it doesn't look bad. I wouldn't play it and I'm a HUGE wrestling fan and an even bigger gamer but I don't want these two hobbies/interests to merge.

Honestly though, maybe for a one-shot beer-n-pretzels kind of night.... Especially if someone else DM'd and brought the source book.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know there was a WWE D20 game. I think I'd briefly seen the zombie wrestling supplement somewhere, but until now I didn't know what game it belonged to - and therefore hadn't been able to find out anything about it.

I agree that a complete wrestling game would probably be a little tiresome. At the risk of sounding like a Philistine, I believe that's one area where the video game versions are probably far superior to the pen & paper equivalent.

I was thinking more of something aimed at allowing wrestling elements to be brought into a general D20 (or other) Modern adventure. Maybe as a setting, maybe to introduce new classes, or perhaps just to create the weapon rules for a steel chair...

The overwhelming opinion at RPG.net is that it is awesome:)

Alos, at Gen Con I picked up Kayfabe which is about the real-life pro-wrestling business, and it is a sharp little commodity as well:)
